Stardust Secured introduces a software and hardware solution enabling partners to verify documents and authenticate products using a smart device and mobile application.

BUSINESS OBJECTIVES

All the objects will be checked to have ceramic finely dispersed powder (unique material) added to any object/product (passports, banknotes, labels, ink, etc.) during manufacturing. The material is completely concealed in the object because of the low concentration in the product. It cannot be found or recognized without special devices and obtaining the data processing algorithm.

BUSINESS PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY

The target customers include government institutions, organizations verifying signatures and stamps, and companies combating counterfeiting. The challenge lies in attracting companies' attention to brand protection and investing resources in anti-counterfeiting measures.

APPROACH

The development began with a demo version of the mobile application and a demo-prototype of the measurement unit. This approach allowed for quicker debugging and testing before completing the construction. The final version of the tester integrates seamlessly with the smartphone and is ready for production and certification.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

The TracFone Nokia C100 smartphone was chosen for its affordability and compatibility with additional hardware. Data processing and verification are performed on smartphones using a Microchip to transmit sensor data. LEDs and photodetectors were tested to select the best variants for production. Power management was optimized by connecting the external device to the smartphone battery for charging.

LESSONS LEARNED

Simplifying device architecture and synchronizing resources early in implementation are crucial for reducing production costs and ensuring technological success. The project management approach combines agile methodology for mobile application development with waterfall for hardware construction.
