INTRODUCTION

Byte, a cutting-edge technology company, developed Smart Kiosk, a Computer Vision-enabled fridge, revolutionizing 24/7 product sales with automated purchase tracking and billing.

BUSINESS OBJECTIVES

The goals for the Iomico team were to enhance Smart Kiosk's hardware and software for better market alignment, focusing on:

  • Modular electronics architecture design.

  • Integration of Computer Vision technology using NVIDIA Jetson AI hardware.

  • Enhancement of back-office software.

BUSINESS PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY

The project aimed to:

APPROACH

Electronics Development:

  • Redesign of peripheral board to accommodate larger LCD, credit card reader, and interface with client's PCBA.

  • Optimization of fridge microcontroller for IIoT.

  • Selection of microcontroller with sufficient memory and processing power.

  • Implementation of cellular modem with dual antennas for redundancy.

  • Integration of temperature measurement systems and presence detection sensor.

  • Addition of odor sensor for spoilage detection.

Android Development:

  • Creation of embedded Android app for client-fridge communication.

  • Functions included server communication, product list retrieval, payment processing, and real-time monitoring.

  • Dynamic pricing based on product expiration.

  • Temperature threshold alerts and kiosk lockdown.

  • Regular status reporting to online dashboard.
