INTRODUCTION

Smart Access Device and Gateway for granting and restricting access to the guests and tracking their activity.

BUSINESS OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the project set for IOMICO team by the Client were the following:

  • to plan, design and develop a hardware and software MVP (minimum viable product) version of the solution to prove the feasibility of the project;

  • to integrate developed devices and new application into the ecosystem of the client’s existing solutions.

BUSINESS PROBLEM/OPPORTUNITY

  • No control over access to the private areas of third parties;

  • No reports about visitors.

APPROACH

The solution consists of two parts: hardware for control gates, barriers, etc., and mobile application for remote control access to the private areas. 

  • The hardware part needs to be directly installed in private areas. It connects to the Cloud Server via the Internet. 

  • Mobile application "BYGATES" allows the user to: 

    • Open/close gates remotely;

    • Give third parties access to the private area with predefined limits;

    • Monitor activity history.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

  • Hardware part consists of two devices:

    1-. Gate controller (server) - device monitoring the state of the mesh network, controlling the electric drive of gates and barriers. Uses a standard client-server architecture.


    2-. Provisioner (client) - a device for receiving commands from a remote web server through communication modules (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Cellular) taking into account encryption (AES, TLS) and then giving commands to the gate controller device (opening/closing of gates/barriers) 

  • Internet connection via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, 2G/3G

  • GATER is configured and managed through a mobile application.

  • Bluetooth 5.0 uses for communication between devices and the mobile application.

  • Nordic mesh uses for communication between devices. 

  • Using bluetooth amplifier to locate devices over long distances.

  • Wide power supply range: 6-36 VDC.

CONCLUSION

The succes of the project allows:

  • Remote gates unlocking from a mobile app.

  • Inviting guests by sharing a link through a preferred messenger

  • Access activity tracking
